Product Review: DYSON Pure Cool Link

Have you ever thought about the quality of air that is in your living-space?

As with taking a simple breath and relying on our bodies to ‘just’ do this for us, living in clean air and being able to breathe, is something we all take for granted, however especially those with allergies and asthma know that it’s a serious issue that is only getting worse.

Allergies and asthma are two health problems that can be helped with clean indoor air. When airborne irritants are removed, allergy and asthma sufferers often find relief from their symptoms. Even healthy people who have never suffered from allergies can benefit from clean air. Dust, smoke and other particles float around in the air, causing your drapes and furniture to gather dust. So by ‘simply’ removing airborne dust particles, you reduce the amount of exposure your respiratory system has to them which results in cleaner air all year around that is good for the world, but also for yourself.

I have really horrible hay fever, and this year in Sydney has (so my GP told me) had the worst season of pollen etc., which have left me with itchy, bloodshot eyes, running nose, blocked throat, and sneezing so much the entirety of Bondi must’ve said ‘Bless you’ by now..
So, as you can imagine, naturally I was excited when Dyson asked me to try out their new Pure Cool Link to help me combat my allergies, provide me with clean air in my house and, you know, make me seem ÜBER COOL for having art in my house (because this piece genuinely looks like it!)

The new Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan uses a unique 360° Glass HEPA filter to remove 99.95% of fine particles such as allergens and pollutants. However, it doesn’t stop there; sensors inside the machine detect changes in conditions, before automatically adjusting airflow to maintain the target air quality. The machine projects purified air quietly, purifying all year round, and working as a cooling fan in summer. Seriously, how GADGET-Y cool is that? I’m such a geek when it come to technology – this actually amazes me!

There are two ways to control the Pure Link Cool. There’s a small infrared remote for turning on the fan, increasing or decreasing its power, setting it to oscillate or operate on a timer. Then there’s also a button for putting it into night mode, which limits the fan strength to four or less and dims the LED display on the front, HOWEVER, this is where it get’s really bloody cool (pun intended!).. You can control it using the Dyson Link app for Android or iOS. The app provides information on filter life, telling you when you need to change it – which is roughly once a year depending the quality of air in your house – and set schedules for it to run on a daily or weekly basis.

You can also get an instant reading of the air quality around the fan and the air quality outdoors, and a chart showing air quality throughout the day or week and how often the purifier was active. There are also air quality targets that you can change, grouped into “good quality”, “sensitive to particles and pollutants” and “very sensitive to particles and pollutants”, which the machine responds to when automatically cleaning the air, working towards the goal you’ve given you little buddy.

As I’m very wary of what type of medicine I put in my body, I don’t take antihistamines, unless I have a severe attack where I simply cannot function, which means this has allowed me to see a significant change being at home in my apartment, after being outside and in the office most of the day..

Even after just 3 days with the Dyson Pure Link Cool in my home I’ve noticed it’s been easier to breathe, sneezing has gone down, itchy eyes has almost disappeared and my skin is less itchy, too..
This is of course when I’m at home – unfortunately in these times, when I walk outside again it all comes back.. However, it’s comforting to know that I now can live and breathe in a healthier space in my little sanctuary.

Of course; for us Sydneysiders it’s also comforting to know that it’s actually a fan too (blowing cold air), and I’m saying this as I’m currently sitting in front of it whilst it’s 37 degrees outside, blessing it with everything I have.. Yikes!
