If you’ve followed me for a while you’d know that I swear by collagen and have done so for 5-6 years, that’s why I’ve been trialling the Isagenix Marine Collagen Elixir over the last two months in a partnership with Isagenix. This time has really given the collagen time to work its magic whilst I was documenting changes that I noticed throughout the weeks.

For those of you who don’t know much about Marine Collagen, I suggest you start with reading this article  that I wrote, before continuing below to fully understand what it is and how it can help you with your beauty goals.

I will divide the changes & observations around the product that I noticed after taking the Isagenix Marine Collagen Elixir every day for 30 days, into weeks for you to see below, however I want to notice that prior to starting this, some of the stand-out areas I had was; dull skin, dry areas, lips very dry, fine lines around eyes.

Day 1 (before starting Isagenix Collagen)

Week 1:

  • Easy to drink & delicious flavour (superfruit)
  • Keep in the fridge – it tastes a lot nicer when it’s cold
  • I’ve started drizzling it on top of my oatmeal and it’s delicious
  • Doesn’t have an aftertaste of fish whatsoever
  • Doesn’t upset my gut
Week 2:
  • My hair is noticeably softer & less dry

Week 3:

  • I have more colour/glow in my face
  • My skin feels and looks more vibrant
  • I have less dark circles under my eyes

Week 4:

  • My hair feels thicker and softer
  • My lips are far less dry
  • My skin looks and feels more hydrated
  • The skin on my body is a lot less dry
  • My skin is really glowing

Week 4 (after 30 days on Isagenix Marine Collagen)

The reason why Isagenix Marine Collagen Elixir is different to many collagen products on the market, is Isagenix’s focus on incorporating superfoods into the elixir like Goji Berries, Chamomile, Aloe Vera, Vitamin C, Zinc & Acerola Berry – these combined, all provide an additional nutritious elixir. Each bottle also includes 5g of pure Marine Collagen harvested from the waters of Scandinavia and manufactured in MSC approved and monitored carbon neutral facilities. These bottles are then sealed within 0.15 seconds to prevent the product from loosing its efficacy from oxidation caused by gas exchange. This is why the elixir can be made without the need of any preservatives or fillers. The glass bottle is also 100% recyclable so it is environmentally friendly.

If you want to see changes in your skin and you’ve previously only focused on your skin from the outside-in, I would highly recommend you to try a natural beauty product like this one from Isagenix. It’s packed with nutrients that are not only god for your skin but also your overall health. Aloe Vera is incredibly soothing to the GI tract and gut-lining.

I’m sure you’ve heard it all before.. but do you actually truly know why Marine Collagen has suddenly become the IT-word on everyone’s lips in the last year or so? It almost feels like everyone jumped on the Collagen-wave overnight, but truth be told, it’s actually been available in supplement form for many, many years.

I started consuming collagen daily back in 2015 and it’s one of the habits that I will never ever let go of, purely because of the health benefits I see and the positive impact it has on my skin.

But, be careful – there are lots of collagens on the market that claim to be something they’re not. It’s important to assess a brand and product in detail when you’re considering introducing a new ingestible supplement to your regime.

Some of the things to look out for are;

  • Sustainability: The efforts of the brand/product to lower their environmental footprint
  • Sourcing: Be mindful of where the collagen (fish) comes from, how it was raised, how it was fed, how it was caught. Make sure it’s been MSc approved and that it’s under strict management.
  • Ingredients: What are the added extra ingredients in the product to make the marine collagen more bioavailable in your body.
  • Potency: How much collagen is in the product per serving?

All of the above should play a key role in your decision-making when deciding on which Marine Collagen is best for you.

What is Marine Collagen, what does it do & why should I take it?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body, but our bodies produce less and less of it with each passing year. Since most of us don’t get enough collagen through our diets, it can be beneficial to supplement with Marine Collagen.

Marine Collagen is derived entirely from fish collagen, either fish skin or scales. Marine collagen peptides are comprised of two types of collagen, types I & III. There are over forty different types of collagen throughout the body that vary in their composition and function, but Type 1 collagen is the most abundant collagen in our body. Because Marine Collagen has superior bioavailability it is absorbed up to 1.5 times more efficiently than other types of collagen, making it one of the best and effective types.

I think we are all, as a society and world, beginning to recognise the link and true effect between healthy skin and nutrition. It means, it really does matter in the long run what we choose to feed our bodies and how it’s reflected in our skin, particularly our facial skin as it’s a lot more sensitive and exposed to free radicals, sun, pollution and wear & tear from simply ageing.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with ageing – we all do – but I think we can agree on that we’d all love to age gracefully and feel good about ourselves and the skin that we’re in.

So if you are someone who chooses to incorporate an abundance of leafy greens, fresh fruit & vegetables and lots of water every single day, you’re already on such a good road for your overall health AND your skin health. Now, add a daily dose of Marine Collagen to the mix if you’d like better skin health along with healthier hair & nails, too, and you’re well on your way to setting your beauty routine up for success.

Because beauty really is so much more than what we choose to put ON our skin, it’s about how we feed our microbiome (gut) with the right nutrient so that our cell-turnover (every 30 days) reveals more luminous, glowy and plump skin.

Health & Beauty Benefits of taking Marine Collagen:

  • Skin Elasticity & Hydration
  • Healthy Nail Growth
  • Firms Skin
  • Soft Hair & Hair Growth Increase

Isagenix Collagen Elixir:

I’ve been testing out this beautiful and newly launched Collagen Elixir from Isagenix for the last 30 days, after having long and in-depth conversations about everything from the vision & creation of this product coming to life, to understanding how the marine collagen is sourced, the product is bottled, the low impact it has on the planet and much more.
I was so impressed with the lengths Isagenix has gone to creating this product with so much thought & care and wanted to share the experience with you.

This is why Isagenix Collagen Elixir is different to what’s currently on the market and why I chose to partner with them for the launch:

1. Environmentally Sustainable:

Isagenix’s marine collagen is both ethically and sustainably sourced from the beautifully blue ice waters of the Scandinavian Sea, following strict environmentally friendly practices that help support marine diversity. It is manufactured in a Marine Stewardship Council certified carbon neutral facility. This certification guarantees the product has met a science-based set of standards that care for the ecosystems our wild fish are part of and handled with care throughout the entire supply chain.

Additionally, with 100% recyclable packaging, making the marine Collagen Elixir fully sustainable from sourcing through to disposal.

2. Key Botanical for Synergistic Effect:

Marine collagen is mostly used in cosmetic products because its collagen profile aligns closely with the collagen profile seen in humans, making it a great match to nourish your skin. But Isagenix hasn’t just used marine collagen. The key botanical ingredients included in the ‘daily shot of Collagen’ also serve a special purpose. These ingredients include; Goji Berries, Aloe Vera, Acerola Berry, Chamomile, Vitamin C & Zinc.

3. Quality Sealed & Preserved:

Each bottle is sealed in just 0.15 seconds to prevent the product from losing its efficacy from oxidisation caused by a gas exchange. By sealing in the freshness and preventing any gas exchange, Collagen Elixir maintains its premium quality without the need of any preservatives.

4. Collagen at The Forefront:

Every bottle of Collagen Elixir contains a total of 5g Synchronised Marine Collagen with Double Nutri Technology to assist with nutrient absorption.

… and, don’t worry – it tastes like a fruit-cocktail, nothing like fish and with no fishy aftertaste.

Who’s keen to get started?

Hands up if you love a sheet mask? Yeah, me too!

However, I wasn’t always a find, to be completely honest. I always felt like they were a little stiff and never really stuck properly to my face, but after having tested lots (and I do mean LOTS) of different sheet masks, I’ve finally found myself a few favourite ones that I wanted to share with you.

The best thing about sheet masks? No mess & super easy to travel with. Win/win, right?

Let’s get into a few favourites below:

STARSKIN – VIP Crème de la Crème

The inner layer is coated with a remarkable 18g of super-concentrated, luxurious cream while the outer protective layer functions as a shield. This delivery system allows you to force-feed dry and depleted skin with almost half a jar of cream in just one treatment to ensure ultimate nourishment and absorption, and spectacular results.

GO TO – Transformazing

The blend of natural botanicals such as kakadu plum, finger lime tasmanian pepper leaf work together, and in just 10 minutes leave the skin plumper and brighter. The skin tone is left more even, whilst the addition of niacinamide and hyadisine leave the skin plumper, hydrated and ready for any event with this sheet mask.

WEI – Mung Bean Sprout Stress Relieving Soothing Mask

This purifying sheet mask floats in 45ml essence of detoxifying Mung Bean Sprout to help to clear imbalanced or blemished skin. Mung Bean Sprout offers powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties while supplying protein-rich moisture to the skin, Chinese Licorice Root helps heal skin ailments and blemishes while Cucumber extract soothes and hydrates.

A’kin – Australian Tea Tree Oil Detoxifying Sheet Mask

This bio-degradable, lightweight and soft sheet mask is infused with Australian Tea Tree Oil which helps to keep skin clear and blemish free. Organic Green Tea, a potent antioxidant, works to protect skin against environmental toxins, helps to control excess oil production, and provides a clarifying boost to your skin. Tea Tree Oil, Lavender and Orange Blossom essential oils combine to provide a truly botanical experience that will leave skin feeling hydrated, relaxed and refreshed.

Neutrogena – Purifying Hydrogel Mask

This unique hydrogel mask is formulated with Moringa pterygosperma, a seed extract as well as a seaweed extract, known to purify skin for a healthy-looking complexion. This is no ordinary sheet mask. It is made of 100% hydrogel material which contours to your skin, sealing in the formula for optimal absorption and is clinically proven to hydrate.

The Body Shop – Seaweed Balance Sheet Mask

Mattify and hydrate oily and combination skin in just 15 minutes with our vegan Seaweed Balance Sheet Mask. Enriched with cucumber extract, mineral-rich seaweed and Community Trade organic aloe vera, this mask locks in 24hr hydration and leaves skin feeling instantly refreshed and mattified.

Ella Baché – Charcoal Foaming Mask

An innovative cellulose sheet mask rich in Activated Charcoal for deep cleansing and detoxifying. Anti-pollution agents help to oxygenate the skin while fruit-derived AHAs and Glycolic Acid refine and soften texture and tone. Aloe Vera calms and soothes while providing the necessary hydration that all skin types require

MECCA COSMETICA – Urban Defence Protect & Purify Sheet Mask

Enriched with hyaluronic acid and witch hazel extracts to balance natural oils, this repairing mask intensively moisturises and revitalises the skin’s outer layer with a powerful dose of white tea and moringa oil which assists with purifying and protecting against free radicals, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

ESTĒE LAUDER – Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask

High-performance foil-backed sheet mask creates a protective barrier, allowing the potent technologies to penetrate fast and deep within skin’s surface and helping to lock in moisture. 2X Hyaluronic Acid with each treatment delivers a surge of liquid revitalization, immersing skin in a double dose of Advanced Night Repair Serum’s powerful moisture magnet.

Edible Beauty – Express Bloom of Youth Infusion Mask

Refine, plump and illuminate your skin with the Edible Beauty Express Bloom of Youth Infusion Sheet Mask. Through a synergy of exotic botanicals this sheet mask helps with skin cell renewal, restores energy to the skin and fight signs of ageing.

The hero ingredients within this stunning formula include Bamboo Extract which enhances skin firmness whilst Ribose is used to restore energy to the skin, promotes unique cellular renewal and anti-ageing action. Friends, I feel like this Glow Powder blog-post has been a long time coming, and I’m sorry it’s taken me a while to write this one. One of the most requested subjects are always supplements and doing a review of them, however I do like to test out supplements for a decent amount of time to allow my body to truly showcase whether it’s working or not..

Luckily, it’s a little bit easier with The Beauty Chef Glow Powder as I’ve taken this for over 2 years now, and I’m utterly obsessed with it because I can see it truly does make a difference in my skin and overall glow. It’s one of those things that I notice goes away after a week or two, if I stop taking this beauty supplement.

Let’s dive into a bit of a review since I’m partnering with The Beauty Chef for the month of September for their #30daystoglow challenge which is all about kickstarting your inner beauty journey towards a healthier, happier gut and gorgeous, glowing skin!

Even though we’re into September already, you can still join us on a journey to radiant skin – simply take 1 teaspoon of GLOW Inner Beauty Powder every day for one month – that’s it!

What is GLOW Powder & what does it do?

GLOW Inner Beauty Essential is developed in order to, not only support gut health, but also collagen synthesis, and beautiful skin, hair and nails, thanks to the presence of more than 20 bio-fermented, whole food ingredients including zinc and vitamin C which support skin health.

GLOW has been developed with The Beauty Chef’s exclusive Flora Culture fermentation process which helps to increase the bioavailability of the formula and create a live, broad-spectrum probiotic for a healthy & functioning gut.

It actually tastes GOOD – the berry-flavoured formula also contains prebiotics and is packed with easily digested, supercharged nutrients that are absorbed quickly and effectively by your cells and vitamin C to continuously support collagen synthesis and healthy skin.

What are the KEY benefits?

  • Rich in vitamins and minerals: GLOW is a bio-fermented blend of easily absorbed Certified Organic superfoods, vitamin C and zinc, essential fatty acids and phytonutrients.

  • Supports healthy skin: Antioxidant-rich ingredients such as Dunaliella salina, maqui berry, queen garnet plum as well as vitamin C and zinc support healthy skin, helping to reduce inflammation, calm skin irritation and sensitivity.

  • Assists collagen production: Contains vitamin C which supports collagen synthesis, resulting in healthier skin.

  • Feeds your microbiome and supports gut health: Contains prebiotics to feed the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Our exclusive Flora Culture fermentation process also creates a live, broad-spectrum probiotic to support digestive health.

  • Supports skin function: Zinc is important for supporting healthy skin, hair and nails.

  • Certified Organic: GLOW is Certified Organic, which means the ingredients used in this formula are grown organically without any herbicides or pesticides

Can anyone take it?

Yes, it’s suitable for everyone, however pregnant women should always consult a medical practitioner.
It’s also 100% free from; GMO, Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Eggs, and Artificial Ingredients (preservatives, sweeteners & flavours).

How do you feel on it?

In my personal experience, I feel great on it. As you know I’ve had a long gut-health journey that is far from over (when is it ever really?), so I speak from 1st hand experience – I’ve never had any trouble with taking GLOW Inner Beauty Powder from The Beauty Chef even when my gut was at its most sensitive stage. It didn’t bloat me, didn’t create heartburn or reflux or any other pain.

If you do have a sensitive gut, I suggest trialling it out for a few days and noting down how you feel an hour or two after you’ve consumed this to be 100% sure.

How quickly do you see/feel results?

I’d say after a week or two on Glow Powder you will start to see a difference in your skin as well as feeling it in your stomach and overall body. It won’t take months before you get results, your body will notice it straight away and pick up on the goodness.

Remember though, that this isn’t a powder that will make you GLOW if your diet is made up of purely burgers, pizza and soft-drinks. But eating a well-balanced diet (including cake and chocolate, still) and drinking lots of water to help flush your system as well as moving your body most days, will give you the best results – physically and mentally.

If you have any other questions regarding the Glow Powder from The Beauty Chef please feel free to email me or find me on Instagram for a chat.

The Facials That Help Keep My Skin Healthy, Happy & Glowing. /facials/ /facials/#respond Wed, 06 Mar 2019 02:14:30 +0000 /?p=2942 Okay, so I always get so many question about my skincare routine, which products I use and how I keep my skin glowing & happy, especially...

Okay, so I always get so many question about my skincare routine, which products I use and how I keep my skin glowing & happy, especially when I’m suffering from Cystic Acne.

One of those questions, in particular, is what type of Facials I get, so I thought it’d be a good idea to elaborate on the difference between them all, why I get them and how often I do so.

I’ve been going to Laser Clinics Australia Bondi Junction for almost 3 years, and it’s one of the only places I’ve gone where I’ve seen a significant change in my skin because their facials are so problem-targeted and innovative. They really keep up with the newest of the newest within rebuilding skin and I’ve always felt safe there with my knowledgable Beauty Therapist (Sutini is my squeeze).

So, to get into it, here are my favourite facials & skin-treatments I have:

Microdermabrasion:

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses tiny crystals or other exfoliating surfaces to help remove the superficial layer of dead skin cells.

When you remove the top layer of skin, the body interprets it as an injury. It then quickly replaces the lost skin cells with new, healthy ones. The entire procedure usually takes about 30 minutes for the face – this includes 2 x cleansing + moisturising + sunscreen-application afterwards.

It’s typically used as a cosmetic procedure to treat wrinkles, sun-induced pigmentation (darkened skin), acne scarring, enlarged pores and ‘stretch marks’.

The procedure stimulates blood flow, which increases the nutrition delivered to skin cells. This improves cell production, which improves skin’s elasticity and texture. So, if you have scarring, it may help reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Who it’s NOT for: very sensitive skin, eczema, rosacea, open sores, acne breakouts, sunburn.

I normally have a Micro every 3 weeks.

LED Light Therapy:

Also known as HEALITE. Low-level light therapy with HEALITE is the therapeutic use of light emitting diode light to enhance your body’s natural cellular recovery, improving healing times, relieving pain, subsiding active acne, promoting skin rejuvenation and more. It does so by delivering concentrated energy deep into your tissue affecting your body at a cellular level. The deep penetrating LED lights are soothing, they target deep into the skin cells to heighten their internal functions, photo-stimulate dermal blood flow and induce faster healing decrease pain and reduce acne.

There are 2 different lights in this machine:

Yellow: which is good for wound healing, pain relief, muscle & joint pain, arthritis & skin rejuvenation.

Blue: to control active acne and heal the inflammation underneath your skin to stop the production of oil and bacteria.

This is one of the most non-invasive treatments you can have, and I’m telling you; you will be absolutely GLOWING afterwards!

Read more about my experience with LED Light Therapy here.

I normally have LED Light Therapy once a week or fortnight. Normally combined with microdermabrasion or a peel to help the skin regenerate quicker.

Peels:

I either get the Peel Accelerator which is a unique peel that’s suitable for all skin types and can be intensified by layering with other peels or customised with Vitamin C. It helps to renew, brighten and smooth my skin

Or I get the AHA Enzymatic Peel which is a a gentle micro-exfoliating treatment that’s designed to soothe, hydrate and micro-exfoliate dry, flaking and sensitive skin.

I normally have a peel every 4 weeks.

Skin Needling:

Skin Needling can be performed in two ways. Dermal Rolling, using the cosmedical DNC derma roller or Micro Needling, using the Wireless Tri-M Pen. Your Beauty Therapist will be able to advise what’s best suited for your skin-type and concerns

The treatment involves applying a small roller made of tiny needles to the surface of the skin. The roller creates tiny puncture channels that encourage an organic collagen renewal and regeneration response. This wound healing response is what stimulates new collagen and elastin formation which then assists with plumping out fine lines, wrinkles and acne scarring.

It also reduces the appearance of pigmentation, enlarged pores and stretch marks.

Needling isn’t suitable for acne-inflamed skin; this means this treatment isn’t for you if your skin is still breaking out on a daily basis and have got inflamed acne. You will need to get this under control (like I did), before you continue onto these types of treatments which, in my case, is done to fix the damage that had been done to my skin by acne-scarring and regenerating it.

Read more about my experience with Skin Needling here.

*You need 2-3 times of skin-needling treatments to see results on scarring, however you will experience an instant glow and plumpness to your skin after only a week.

I hope this blog answered your questions as to what type of facials I get to keep my skin happy, healthy and glowing, but discuss your specific needs with your beauty therapist to figure out a treatment plan that will target your areas of skin-concerns.

Yes, I’m probably a little bit biased (this isn’t even sponsored), because I’ve been going to Laser Clinics Australia Bondi Junction for so many years, but I do highly recommend them if you’re based in Sydney or Sydney’s East.

Lots of love, C xx

NOVEMBER BEAUTY WRAP UP – TRIED & TESTED.

Wow. November is almost over, and it’s the beginning of Christmas in T minus 3 days.. Are we all shaking a little bit by the thought of 2018 almost being over already? I sure am..

This year has been busy. Maybe that’s why I missed the October Beauty Wrap Up for you guys? Sorry! You can find the September Beauty Wrap Up here though, if you’re interested..

And if you’ve already read that one, and just want to get cracking on the products that I’ve been loving in November, then keep on reading below for my pick of the bunch.. Enjoy!

Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask from WEI @ Sephora:

I’m adding this mask to one of my favourite’s of the bunch when it comes to detoxifying masks that helps breakouts and acne-prone skin.

It’s really soothing, and slightly tingling, on your skin, and you truly feel so deeply-cleansed when you wash this mask off.

Golden Root is also known as one of the most potent herbs to restore youth. The mud mask deeply cleanses skin, purges toxins and impurities, and minimises the appearance of pores and blemishes. Extremely friendly to acne-prone skin, it can also be used as a spot treatment for blemishes – just pop it on the zit, and even sleep with the spot-treatment over night.
Golden Root counteracts the oxidative causes of cell damage, Pure China Clay absorbs toxins and removes dirt and dead skin cells while Jujube fruit extract reduces skin inflammation.

It even comes with a little brush so you can ‘paint’ the mask on yourself – makes it all the more fun to pamper yourself!

Hyaluronic Acid Serum from SKIN INC @ Sephora:

I’ve actually used this serum on and off for a few months now, and I always love coming back to it. So does my skin, when it’s dry and dull.

It feels super light on your face, and won’t clog your pores. It’s rich in hyaluronic acid to help replenish and retains skin’s moisture for long-lasting hydration. It contains hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid to ensure deeper absorption.

You can use it individually (before your moisturiser) or blend with your other favourite serums to provide optimal results and create a powerful, multipurpose product.

Lip Glow – Rockstar Pink – from Salt by Hendrix:

I got this little buddy in my gift-bag at a charity event for Pink Hope – a beautiful, amazing organisation that helps the prevention of womens cancers.

It’s been sitting in my bathroom cupboard ever since, and I use it daily on my lips. It’s just a cute little pinkish lib-balm without all the nasties and only pure goodies to help your lips look their absolute best! All natural, and I absolute love Salt by Hendrix’s products.

Try them if you haven’t before – I promise they won’t disappoint you.

Sheer Defence SPF50 from Invisible Zinc:

We’re coming into summer where the UV is at its absolute highest, and if you live in Australia, after my opinion, you should really be using a sunscreen daily, because of the sun-strength we have here all-year round.

However, none of us want to use sunscreens that feel heavy, sticky or clogging our pores, especially when we’re talking about a facial-sunscreen.

Invisible Zinc’s latest newcomer, Sheer Defence, has a high (SPF50) protection, but feels light on the skin. I break-out easily from sunscreens, however this sits well with me.

30,000 Feet Volume Powder Spray from IGK @ Sephora:

If you saw my Instagram post two or so weeks ago, you would’ve seen I’ve cut my hair short again.. YAY!

However, I’m still trying to get used to it, and I’,m the kind of person who likes (read; NEEDS) lots of volume, because my hair has absolutely zero and is very fine & thin.. Just gotta work with what you’ve got, I suppose!

That’s where this little buddy comes in; the Volume Powder Spray from IGK has literally saved my bad hair-days.

It’s an invisible powder which coat each strand of hair with Betonite Clay to weightlessly add density and grip without residue so that you can style your hair with loads of volume! Its pump applicator is easy to use, without wasting anything other than what goes in your hair.

You don’t need a lot, just use it sparingly.

HOW TO:

  • Shake well.
  • Part the hair in sections and spray the powder at the roots.
  • Use your fingertips to massage the powder into the roots, applying more to achieve the desired volume.
  • Spray sparingly through the mid–lengths and the ends for added fullness and control.

Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair from Aveda:

WOWEE. Friends, if you have damaged, easily breakable, thin strands like me, then make this your nest best friend after each shower..

It’s a leave-in treatment that instantly repairs and protects from heat styling. It also detangles so it’s easier to comb-through (read: less breakage as hair breaks easier when wet) and helps protect from breakage and damage due to heat styling.

It’s also 97% natural which I love (of course!), the packaging is recyclable, it’s in-expensive at $49.95 because it’ll literally last you for months.

OSA Water Mist from BIOEFFECT:

I love a good mist, because they’re a quick and effective way to give your facial-skin a needed hydration-boost during the day, which, if we work in offices with air-condition in particular, we really need to be strong on the water-game front – that means on the inside and outside.

This mist refreshes, hydrates and rebalances the skin whilst it has a firming & mattyifying effect. Because it contains hyaluronic acid, it will lock in the moisture in your skin, keeping your skin hydrated for longer.

BIOEFFECT was actually founded by three geneticists who spent ten years developing a method for creating biorisk-free recombinant proteins in plants for use in medical research. They founded BIOEFFECT when they discovered a way to bio-engineer a plant-based replica of EGF, a naturally occurring human protein, in barley. How cool is that?

I love how natural, science and skincare is starting to come together in our world – the way it truly should be.

That’s it for my November beauty-wrap up, friends.

I’ll be back shortly with a December Beauty Wrap-Up but also with some gift-idea guides for Women & Men.

THE JOURNEY TO MY NEW SMILE – BEFORE & AFTER VENEERS.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been complimented for my teeth.

I was lucky to’ve born with good, strong teeth – I get that after my mum. I never had to wear braces and I never had a cavity till I turned 19, and still to this day, I’ve only ever had 3 cavities and I’m about to turn 29. I also used to absolutely love going to the dentist.

If you would’ve asked me back then, I would’ve never thought that the older me would ever be thinking about braces and veneers at only 27 years old, but unfortunately, I suddenly found myself in this pickle.

From the age of 24(ish), my teeth started deteriorating. They quickly became week and started chipping off at the ends. My enamel was also weakened (what makes the teeth strong, ultimately), and with the rate it was going, it would only be a few years till my teeth would be even worse.

Every time I would eat, I’d be scared my teeth would chip further. I lived in constant fear and anxiety of my teeth breaking.

Another thing was obviously the look of my teeth. Every time I was looking in the mirror; smiling, brushing my teeth or see my big smile I’ve always had in photographs, I’d find myself a little overwhelmed with sadness of a past I so badly wanted to put behind me.

It was then and there I decided that I needed to do something about my teeth, my smile and, somewhat, finally healing myself and letting go of my past.

The wonderful world of teeth & dentistry can be pretty scary, but I pretty quickly came across Doctor Luke Cronin who owns Quality Dental in North Sydney. He was recommended to me by a few friends, and I’d also seen some of his (teeth)work and so I decided to consult him on my teeth and what was the best way forward.

Luke (Cronin) instantly made me feel in safe hands with his knowledge and professionalism, but also with his gentle and caring nature of knowing that teeth can be a touchy subject for many, and the journey can sometimes be long.

At the 2nd consultation, I had normal photos taken of my face and teeth, and then afterwards Dr. Luke sat down with me to, basically, design my teeth in a very fancy 3D programme. Luke asked me what shape I wanted (round, straight, feminine) and what colour I wanted my teeth to have. I was pretty adamant to get as natural-looking teeth as possible and actually brought him a photo of me from when I was 20, to get him to design teeth that looked like my own old teeth before they started deteriorating.

Luke then went away to design them, and I had another consultation the week after.

Basically, Luke designed my teeth and ‘put them on’ in my photo, so I could see exactly what I’d look like even before anything was done to my own teeth! I was absolutely blown away..

2 weeks later, I came in for the ‘grounding down’ of my own teeth – now, it’s a myth that people think you are left with stumps – you re not. They basically take off 0.2cm’s or so, the length – and then polishes the outer part of your teeth (where the veneers are going on).

After this, you have to wear a mould or the ‘fake teeth’ as I’d like to call them, until the real ones are coming back after 7 days – it’s not the easiest, and you do have to be a bit careful, but it’s totally manageable!

After the 7 days, finally, the big day had arrived – MY NEW TEETH was going on.

I got local anaesthetic around my teeth and gum – purely because my teeth was a bit sensitive, because now all the enamel had been polished away in order to prepare my teeth for the veneers – but in no way are any of these steps in the procedure painful – so don’t fret!

10 minutes later, and I was almost in tears. Tears over seeing my amazing, beautiful, natural smile that just changed my entire face (in a great way!), and my beaming self was back.

To let you know; I had my top 10 teeth veneered, and the bottom teeth I had Invisalign on for 7 weeks to straighten.

I don’t think there’s any chance I could’ve been happier with my smile, than what I actually am. Luke is so skilled, talented and doesn’t set a foot wrong – and for the entire time, not once was I nervous about the outcome. It’s one of the best things I ever did for myself.

*Please don’t simply judge on the photos.
You might think my teeth before were fine as they were, but you don’t see the damage on the photos and where they were heading to, if I continued without veneers.

SEPTEMBER BEAUTY WRAP-UP.

Ok, so I completely know we’re already in October, but September was just so darn busy that I didn’t get much time to sit down and write for my blog. But, now I’m back (promise!).

I’d always love to know what you want me to cover, so please feel free to email me and I’ll get back to you.

Right-o, back to what we’re all here for; BEAUTY WRAP UP for September. Again, I’ve dived deeper into some of these products I’ve received and picked a few of my favourites to feature below.

Ready, Set, Go..

Silk Pillowcase from slip:

I’ve actually been sleeping with this for about 2 months now, and I don’t know why it took me so long to get one – it’s absolutely changed my hair and life!

My hair has (a lot!) less breakage, it’s less frizzy & static AND my blowdry’s and hairstyles last for so much longer.

If you have fine & thin hair, in particular, this pillow-case will be your godsend. Any other types of hair will benefit from it as well. It’s also great for your skin to sleep on.

Banana Body Yogurt from The Body Shop:

This actually smells like fresh, ripe, exotic bananas, so if you’re a fan of bananas, then this body yogurt is for you!

It’s also super light, and it doesn’t leave that ‘hard to rub in’ consistency which a lot of creme’s and lotions have. I personally don’t like that, so I’ve really enjoyed this as it’s quick to rub all-over your skin after a shower. I’m all about speed these days.

It’s also 100% vegan and not tested on animals like the rest of The Body Shop’s Products.

Vitamin Nectar Vitamin C Glow Powder from FRESH:

OMG!

Talk about a quick-working mask, girls! If you’re a busy bee, always on the run and just want fast-working products that work then this is your new go-to.

It’s a 30-second foaming Vitamin-C Facial that helps add instant luminosity to your face along with a beautiful, bright glow and an in-depth pore-cleansing feel.

Just be careful around your lips – I find it dries out my lips if I apply it too close, because the skin is a lot finer & thinner around that area. Otherwise, you’re good to go!

Read here why you should add Vitamin C to your skincare-routine.

Anti Aging Cleansing Gel from Peter Thomas Roth:

I find it really hard to find quality cleansers – am I the only one? I often find they don’t do much, or help with any benefits other than just removing my makeup. But what I really want is something that removes my makeup, cleanses & add’s an extra something to my skincare. You know?

So, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel from Peter Thomas Roth at a recent Facial I had which was hosted by Sephora.

This gel helps to clarify and brighten with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, extracts of peach, white oak bark, lemon, lime, linden, grapefruit, and arginine. It also helps to effectively detoxify the pores, dissolve makeup and improve skin texture.

It’s Ideal for all skin types including dry, normal, combination, oily, and acne prone skin. Just don’t use it if you have sensitive skin. It will be too harsh for you.

Hygge Hydraclay Detox Mask from Ole Henriksen:

You might heard me talking about this mask before, but I really love it, because it’s so gentle on the skin but it still produces results. It’s such a treat to use after a long day when you just want to kick back in a hot bath with a face mask.

It has a unique fusion of kaolin and five botanical oils that thoroughly purifies skin, all while replenishing essential moisture. With it’s calming oils and ingredients, it’s gentle enough for dry and sensitive skin. Even as it comforts and helps reduce the look of redness, this hardworking mask draws out dirt, oil, and impurities with a deep cleansing action, leaving your skin refreshed and pampered.

Eye Dew Plus from Arcona:

Okay, drop everything you have and run to your nearest Sephora to get this eye-treatment ASAP!

I use two eye-treatments; The Banan Bright Eye Creme from Ole Henriksen and then this bad-boy. And let me tell you something; it is life-changing for your eye-area!

Dobbed; Unicorn Tears – because of it’s light-reflecting & colour-changing rainbow’ish consistency and texture, it will wipe away wrinkles & lines in a matter of weeks, trust me! We all have them, however young or old. And it’ll keep that area nice, tight and moisturised & just brighten it up like a Christmas-light.

Yes it’s pretty pricey, but it’ll last you for a few months, and the results speak for themselves. I truly could not live without this product now!

Antioxidant Inner Beauty Boost from The Beauty Chef:

I’m a huge believer in that beauty starts from within, so we can buy as many creme’s, lotions and masks as we possibly can, but unless our foundation internally isn’t nourished, you’ll never get the skin you so badly want.

I love anything that I can add to my daily diet that’ll help me reach those *skin-goals* for real. Honestly; I’ll actually try almost anything!

And I’ve recently started adding this little elixir to my water a few times a week, that’s said to help protect skin from cellular ageing, boost the immune system and nourish the gut microbiome.

It’s rich in bio-fermented papaya to help combat free radical damage and boost gut health with natural digestive enzymes and probiotics.

Just keep it in the fridge and have a little bit every day.

Microdermabrasion at Laser Clinics Australia Bondi Junction:

I’m a huge fan of microdermabrasion, because I always feel like it helps my clogged pores and oily skin. If you’re anything like me, who suffers from severe acne, or even just a little, then this treatment will leave you feeling deeply-cleansed and smooth as a baby’s butt.

A Microdermabrasion treatment processes, exfoliates and removes the superficial layer of dry skin cells to improve the skin’s overall texture and quality.

Straight after microdermabrasion.

See you for the next wrap-up x

HOW THIS NEW SKINCARE POWER COUPLE REPLACES YOUR DAILY MAKE-UP ROUTINE

Did my tag-line of this post catch your attention? Good, because I’m about to drop some serious (amazing!) news for all you skincare lovers that deal with dull, ageing, and acne-scarred skin (among others) that will seriously rock your world..

For the past 8 weeks I’ve been testing out & using the newest addition to Ole Henriksen’s  growing empire of natural skincare.. And it’s been rocking my (skincare)world!

I’m talking about the Glow Cycle Retin-ALT Power Serum & the Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Sleeping Creme which together creates a skincare routine that’ll help you with:

  • Renewing Skin Texture
  • Smoothing Fine Lines & Wrinkles
  • Improving Skins Firmness & Elasticity
  • Brightening The Skin
  • Deeply Hydrating
  • Reducing Dark Spots
  • Reducing Acne Scarring
  • Minimising Pores

Chances are, you can probably nod yes to a few of the skin-concerns above you’re currently trying to combat or look after.

What’s So Different About This Duo?

Well, neither of these products contain parabens, sulfates, or phthalates and it’s a completely natural range which is such a bonus.

The difference about these products is the ingredient bakuchiol which is a natural alternative to retinol. Now, I’ve used retinol for years. Retinol is very strong on the skin, and isn’t for sensitive skin at all. It also makes your skin extra sun-sensitive and it’s hard to be outside with it on your skin, in case you burn and can leave you with 1st degree burn-damage to your skin. Not safe at all.

What’s different about bakuchiol is that it’s just as effective as retinol, but it’s natural and it doesn’t cause skin-sensitivity, which means it’s suitable for most people as it’s very gentle on the skin.

Both the Serum and the Night Creme has a soft lilac colour that has sparkling light-particles incorporated.
It instantly lifts your face and gives you a glow like no other. Thanks to the brightening properties from the lilac colour, your face will shine (the good way) whenever light or sunbeams hit your face.

You can genuinely get away with using the Serum in the morning and not wear makeup..
I promise you, and it’s coming from someone who deals with acne-scarring and breakouts on the regular.

You don’t have to worry about it breaking the bank, because it’s affordable skincare that lasts a long way. I’ve been using my two products every night and day, and sometimes during the daytime, for at least a month and I’m not even near through 1/4 of them each.

Why am I Such a Fan?

I’ve used Ole Henriksen’s products since I was a teenager (13). Ole is a fellow Dane like myself, and has been servicing and creating bespoke natural skincare for the Hollywood Scene since he was only young. Now, 25 odd years later, his skincare line is one of the best and most-loved all over the world.

I’ve met Ole – himself – many times now, and he continues to be involved and run his businesses as he always have. He’s an incredible man that has so much passion for the skincare industry and making faces happy – because nothing can make you look pretty & glow like happiness can – just as he says so himself.

The products truly work. There’s a reason why his skincare-line continue to sell-out all over and more people talk about the #OleGlow.

Please, let me know if you have any questions at all regarding this skincare-routine, and I’d be happy to chat it through with you x

THE IMPORTANCE OF VITAMIN C IN YOUR SKINCARE

If you haven’t heard about Vitamin C before, you may be living under a rock? All jokes aside, though Vitamin C is an all-round great addition that you should most definitely incorporate into your lives especially when it comes to your skincare-routine.

Why is Vitamin C So Good For Your Skin?

Vitamin C is a super powerful antioxidant which we all benefit from having in our skincare no matter what age we’re at. By working as an antioxidant, it keeps the reactive oxygen species (which we get from UV Rays & Pollution) from breaking down both collagen and elastin.

Vitamin C also works as a mild exfoliant that can help get rid of hyper pigmented or discoloured skin cells.
It also works to help inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme that creates new pigmentation meaning less tyrosinase equals fewer dark marks. Vitamin C both helps fade existing spots and prevents new ones, ensuring your skin stays spot-free. But remember sun-screen as your skin will be more sensitive in the sun when using active Vitamin C in your skincare.

What Does Vitamin C Help With?

Well, a whole lot of things, but below is a list of skincare-concerns Vitamin C might be helpful with:

  • Helps to Brighten Skin & Complexion
  • Improves Firmness of Skin
  • Fights Visible Signs of Ageing
  • Helps Smoothness of Skin
  • Improves Skin Radiance
  • Helps to Hydrate Skin Deeply
  • Targets Pigmentation and Dark Spots
  • Helps Target Acne & Redness Associated with Acne

What Products Should I Get?

Ole Henriksen’s C-Rush Brightening Gel Crème is a part of my skincare-routine, especially in the morning and it has been for months. It’s the perfect base on my skin before applying make-up as it brightens my skin and helps keep it hydrated and glowing throughout the day.

It has 3 sources of Vitamin C along with Rose of Winter extract that helps to nourish my skin and fight the effects of stress, fatigue and air-pollution all day long.

Pair it with my other beauty-cupboard secret and staple; the Banana Bright Eye Crème which helps to brighten and firm the eye-area instantly.

It’s Collagen-boosted, which means it deeply hydrates even with it’s lightweight feel, and it’s absolutely perfect under makeup as it’s inspired by the makeup artist’s must-have – “banana powder” – containing special pigments to instantly brighten and colour-correct the eye area.

It also contains Vitamin C along with Orange & Green Tea Extracts to help nourish the skin, Collagen to improve skin’s elasticity and Aloe Juice to soften and condition the under-eye area.

Trust me, you definitely want this in your beauty-regime! It replaces makeup on the days you don’t want to wear any but your own true skin.

Are you going to try Vitamin C in your skincare?
