Did I have you at chocolate? No judgment here, girl! I have one of these babies almost every single day, and I never feel guilty for it – nor that yo ever should – but if you are a Hot Chocolate Connoisseur then being able to whizz up a Hot Choco every once in a while is a pretty handy skill, instead of the sugary Cadbury stuff, you know?

This is also GUT-LOVING if you want to invest in Medicinal Mushrooms and a few other additions like Collagen & Maca, because it helps your digestive system and the rebuild-up of your gut-lining, but by no means is it necessary to make the hot chocolate as it doesn’t add any flavour to it (besides from the Maca).

It’s super duper simple, and you can really do it with any type of milk, but I really like to make mine with Soy-Milk just because it froths up a lot when you give it a spin in the blender. I know there are loads of different opinions on Soy Milk, but it works for me to have a little of it each week. If you do suffer from excess oestrogen, I’d probably recommend to keep soy-milk at a minimum, but a little is okay.

See below for the recipe:

Healthy Hot Chocolate:

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of hot soy milk (or any other milk)
  • 1/2 cup of boiled water
  • 2 tsp unsweetened raw Cacao Powder
  • 1 tsp of unsweetened Carob Powder
  • 1 tsp Maca Powder
  • Few drops of Vanilla Stevia
  • Dash of Cinnamon
  • 1 full dropper of Turkey Tail (medicinal Mushroom)
  • 1 tsp Hydrolysed Collagen
  • 1 tsp Almond Butter (or any nut butter of your choice)
  • 1 tsp coconut flakes

Directions:

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and whizz on high for 10 seconds
  • Serve in a mug and sprinkle with coconut flakes & raw cacao
  • FULLY ENJOY!

BEEF BONE BROTH
As you may have seen on my Instagram I have recently embarked on a journey to properly heal my gut once and for all.

I have, and still am, very exhausted and fatigued most of the day, my skin is breaking out – both with acne but also with chicken-skin across my body, I’m bloated, constipated and just a bit of a shell of a human, to be honest. At my lowest, and when I had a little mental breakdown on Saturday, I decided that enough is enough..

Unfortunately, as I don’t receive Medicare, I’m not at the liberty of finding specialists and run tests that can help pin-point what exactly is wrong with me, so I’ve had to do what I’ve always done; research and read my way to (potentially) figuring out what’s going on with me.. I know that, on the back of cancer and eating disorders, I’ve had severe Gut-Health issues, so my thoughts are that my gut simply isn’t working, or that I am, in fact, suffering from Leaky Gut..

I’ll write further about Leaky Gut once I’m more into my new diet to see if it helps me. So far, it’s been very helpful the past 3 days, although I did have something last night that made my tummy flare up, and I looked 5 months pregnant.

One of the things that is recommended on a Leaky Gut Diet is to drink Bone Broth twice a day (2 x 250ml) to heal your gut. Broth contains collagen and the amino acids proline and glycine that can help heal your damaged cell walls.

See below for my Beef Bone Broth Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 kg of Beef Bones (from grass-fed cows – very important!)
  • Water
  • 4 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Carrots
  • 2 Celery Stalks
  • 1 Large Onion (with skin)
  • 4 Bay Leaves
  • 4 Cloves of Garlic
  • 15 stalks of Fresh Thyme
  • 10-15 Peppercorn
  • 2-3 tbsp Salt (more to taste once done)
  • 4 Curry Leaves

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oven to 240 degrees, and place all the bones in a baking-tray. Roast for 30 minutes to improve flavour.
  2. When the bones have roasted, place the bones in a large stock pot (with juices)
  3. Add cold water to the pot so it covers the bones and a bit more. Add the vinegar over the bones. Leave it for about 30 minutes so the Vinegar can help draw out the nutrients of the bones.
  4. Roughly chop and add the onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Leave the skin on the vegetables, just make sure you rinse it well.
  5. Add the rest of the herbs, spices, pepper & salt to the pot.
  6. Bring the broth to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and simmer until done. The longer you leave it to simmer, the more nutrients. However, I leave mine to for about 4 hours. You can leave it to simmer for up to 10 hours if you wish.
  7. Check on it every hour, and add more water if needed.
  8. When finished, remove from the heat and let it cool slightly. Remove the bones with tongs, and strain the broth using a fine strainer to remove all the bits of excess fat & vegetable, so you get a clear broth.
  9. You can store the broth in glass jars in the fridge for 4-5 days or freeze it for later.

Hope you love it. Please let me know how you go.

IMMUNITY BOOSTER HEALTH TONIC

You might’ve seen this yellow immunity health-tonic across my Instagram over Winter & Spring.. and for very good reasons.
It’s been helping me keep my immune-defence strong and agile, and have cut down the length & severity of my cold-symptoms when they have come on.

It’s incredibly easy to make, and won’t cost you much. A little also goes a long way, and you just need a little bit of the tonic every morning on an empty stomach. Twice a day if you feel a virus coming on or are battling the flu.

So what’s in it? Well, just a few simple ingredients, but they really pack a punch and your insides will love you for it.

See below for the recipe:

Makes app. 800 ml:

Ingredients:

  • Fresh ginger, sliced (size of 1/2 your palm)
  • Fresh turmeric, slices (size of 1/2 your palm)
  • 2 tbsps organic honey or 1 tbsp Manuka Honey
  • 50 ml unfiltered apple-cider vinegar
  • 1 litre of filtered water
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • Freshly ground pepper

Directions:

  1. Add the filtered water, ginger, turmeric, juice of lemons, ground pepper and organic honey to a small pot and place it on the stove on high heat. Cover with a lid and wait until it boils. Turn it off and leave (with the lid) until cool.
  2. When cool, turn on the stove again on high heat with the lid and bring it to a boil. Turn it off and leave to stand over night.
  3. The next day; add the unfiltered apple-cider vinegar (and more honey if you want it sweeter), and use a strainer to pour into some airtight jars and place in the fridge.
  4. Keep in the fridge and have 1/2 glass every morning to start the day with.

Let me know if you end up trying this, and what you think of it.

Summer is (almost!) here, which means; can you guess it? .. SMOOTHIE-BOWLS! Yes!

And you know what else is a YES?! Same-sex marriage in Australia as of today. Today was a DAMN good day for humankind!

I’ve been a bit slack with my recipe creations (I’m so sorry, as I know you love the simplicity of what I normally create), but for a little while I lost my creative mojo, but now I’m back again. And I promise I won’t go away again. Well, at least for now – expect to see a lot more fun, easy and healthy recipes coming up in the next little while.

For today, I’ve created a pink pitaya protein bowl for you all. Pink pitaya is also known as ‘dragonfruit’, and is rich in Vitamin C, Antioxidants, good fatty acids and B Vitamins as well as carotene and protein. Superfood? I think, YES!

Have this bowl for breakfast or even just have it as a drink (without the toppings) for an in-between-meal snack. It works both ways. If you want to keep it lighter, leave out the protein.

If you’re wondering where to get the Pink Pitaya from? This Organic one is from THR1VE which you can order with their home-delivery meals.

Ingredients:

– 1/2 cup frozen berries
– 1 small mango
– 1/2 ripe banana + 1/2 to decorate
– 1 serving of pink pitaya
– 1 cup coconut milk
– 1 tbsp pistachios + more to decorate
– 1 tbsp goji berries+ more to decorate
– Handful of ice-cubes
– Strawberries to decorate
– Blueberries to decorate

Method:

– Add all ingredients to a blender
– Blend at high speed for 10 seconds
– Add ice-cubes and blend for another 10 seconds
– Pour into a bowl and decorate with fruits, nuts and seeds or put it in a air-tights jar and bring it with you as a snack. Keep it refrigerated and cold.

Let me know if you create it at home and what you think?

Would also love to hear which type of recipes you’d want me to create?

ENJOY!

If you follow me on Instagram and especially watch my Instagram stories, you’d know I’m a big advocate (and lover!) of Bulletproof Coffee.

I have done Bulletproof’s for about 2 years now – I was first introduced to it back in 2015 and I never even drank coffee for 25 years! 2 years later and I’m obsessed.

Now, if you haven’t ever heard of Bulletproof Coffee – which is a part of the Bulletproof diet – let me tell you a little bit about it.

Bulletproof Coffee

Bulletproof coffee was ‘invented’ by Dave Asprey back in 2009 after travelling to Tibet and tasting yak-butter tea drinks. Come 2014 and Bulletproof was trademarked and is now a brand boasting a complete product line and original Bulletproof cafe’s in Los Angeles (Santa Monica & Downtown LA).

What is it exactly?

Bulletproof coffee or the many other names it may go by: keto coffee, butter coffee, fat coffee – is a drink, very simply, containing coffee, butter & oil.

Separately those ingredients don’t exactly tick any health boxes, but together they are the three components you need to make Bulletproof coffee – a frothy, energy-igniting drink that has a multitude of health benefits including triggering weight loss by way of ketosis, a metabolic state triggered by a lack of carbs that kicks fat-burning into overdrive; it kills pesky cravings; and it boosts cognitive function, mainlining a shining dose of mental clarity throughout the day instead of the highs and lows you get from drinking ‘normal coffee’.

How do you drink it?

The things is, if you do have a bulletproof coffee, you will have it in the morning and it will substitute your breakfast as it is a meal in itself because of the high intake of fat and oils that will put your body into a fat-burning state – this state can’t be reached if you eat with this drink as well.

Have it first thing in the morning as you rise, and then have a snack as you normally would mid-morning, continuing onto eating normally throughout the day.

If you are further wanting to burn fat in particular, you can follow the bulletproof diet which, again, is a diet focused on eating foods high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates. I personally don’t follow this diet but simply eat a variety of fresh, organic (when can), healthy and highly nutritional produce mainly focused on vegetables, but I have no strictness around it.

The original recipe:

Ingredients:

  • At least 1-2tbs unsalted organic grass-fed butter.
  • 1-2tbs of Brain Octane Oil or XCT Oil (these are 18x and 6x stronger than coconut oil, with no flavour.)
  • 1-2 cups (250-500ml) of hot coffee brewed with low-toxin beans.

1. Make Coffee:

Brew coffee as you normally would.  Make sure it’s the right kind of coffee.  If you haven’t purchased Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee beans, you can get a great organic roast form your local health-store.

2. Pre-heat blender:

Boil extra water and pour it into a blender while your coffee brews to pre-heat the blender.

3. Froth:

Empty out the hot water from the now pre-heated blender and add the brewed coffee, butter, and Brain Octane oil.  Blend until there is a thick layer of foam on top like a latte. The stronger the blender, the better. A spoon won’t work as it won’t dissolve the butter or make it frothy.

4. Optional:

Add cinnamon or a sweetener like Stevia. Don’t use honey or agave as it messes with the components of the ketosis.

My recipe and how I make it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp unsalted, organic grass-fed butter
  • 1 cap of Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil
  • 1 cup brewed coffee from roasted, organic coffee beans
  • 1 tbsp Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate
  • 1 tsp organic, raw cacao nibs
  • 1 tbsp Amazonia Raw protein isolate (natural)
  • Organic, liquid Stevia to taste

Follow the above instructions and add all ingredients to blender – blend on high and drink straight away.

This method is much more of a comprehensive meal and you certainly won’t feel like you need breakfast after this either. It will keep you going for hours at a steady pace without the spikes that a normal caffeinated coffee-drink will provide you with.

I often also have a bullet (short for bulletproof) if I have a big presentation or an important meeting as part of the benefits are enhanced brain function and clarity to think and act better and quicker.

Take it with you in your keep-cup, and you help the environment, too.

Hope you love it! Cx

What’s better than an ice-cold, delicious, healthy and nutritious smoothie? In my world, not much else.

I’ve always been for smoothies rather than juices as I believe smoothies keep more nutrients as you use the entire fruit/vegetable compared to when juicing where you actually get rid of a large amount of nutrients as they tend to ‘sit’ in the peel or just below the surface of fruits & veggies.

Smoothies are a great breakfast option. Quick, easy, filling and nutritious.

Fruit provides vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C and potassium. The vitamins and minerals help your body function properly. Bananas provide a good source of potassium, an important nutrient in muscle health. Many fruits have fiber and this helps to slow down the digestive process and keep you feeling full longer. As an added benefit, when you consume fiber-rich foods, this can help you manage your weight as you won’t be hungry straight away. Here are a few of my favorite homemade smoothies – they’re super easy and quick to make.

Always remember to try to use organic fruit so you don’t get all the chemicals that sits on and just below the peel.

Blue & Black:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1 scoop Bodyscience Naturals Organic Vegan Vanilla Protein
  • 1 tsp Bodyscience Naturals Immureds Vegan Antioxidant
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • Filtered water
  • Top with fresh blueberries & activated almonds.

Summer Sunshine:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1/4 cup frozen papaya
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop Bodyscience Naturals Organic Vegan Vanilla Protein powder
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla essence
  • Filtered water.
  • Top with pepitas & shredded coconut

Black Forrest:

  • 1 cup frozen blackberries
  • 1 small banana
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • Filtered water
  • Flaxseed Oil
  • 1 tsp Bodyscience Natural Immureds Vegan Antioxidant
  • Top with blackberries & chia seeds
