HOW TO BE PRESENT IN A TIMELY WORLD..

.. As I take a moment to sit & be present, I look down on my newest wrist-addition, a Tissot Chemin Des Tourelles, and my thoughts drift away into dreams and what seem to be infinite time.

Looking down at my wristwatch transports me back to a time, where I was only a young girl and my dad would teach me how to read a clock.. It’s a small thing, but every time I look at my watch, I see my dad smiling and saying: ‘You can do it..’, just like he did when I was little. It’s my little reminder to continue on.

Later, I blink my eyes open to the afternoon-sun peaking in through the window, and I know I must’ve sat there for a while. I look at my watch and, for a second, I wonder if we can create a world where time will continue on, but the present moment is honoured and appreciated?

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it is that each moment is perfect and unique in it’s own way. We will never get a second, a minute, an hour back, that has already passed and the future is already changing as we speak.

Taking the time to be present and appreciate the now whilst still living in a timely world, regardless of what we are facing, could be what will set us apart from simply existing to fully living.

Read on below for my tips on How To Be Present In A Timely World:

 

  1. MEDITATE:

    If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’ve talked a lot about meditation and it’s health benefits – both mentally & physically. But meditation is also what keeps us present. It’s what shows us that beyond this human world, there is an infinite space to be exactly what we are; pure energy and free souls.

    When incorporating a daily meditation-practice, life becomes easier and more manageable. You learn to understand that this world we are experiencing, these bodies we are occupying, are here for a purpose and we have a set amount of time to live that purpose before we depart again and take shape or form as someone or something else. Time in a human world is everything, but infinity takes over when we look inwards.

  2. LET GO:

    Holding onto past tense & hurt is one of the biggest robbers of presence. If you are retaining resentment towards another human being because of past hurts, choose to forgive and move on.
    The harm was their fault, but allowing it to impact your life today is yours. Forgiving can be hard, but living a life chained to the past, is even harder.

  3. GET GLOSE WITH NATURE:

    Nothing brings us back to the present like where we came from; NATURE. Try to spend time in nature and disconnect every single day – even if it’s just for 10 minutes.
    Stepping outside, breathing in the fresh air, feeling the wind and sun on our skin and resonating with the vibrations of the earth, will help bring a sense of inner peace & calmness to our lives that is hard to find elsewhere.
    And, best of all? We all have nature around us, and it’s completely free!

  4. DO LESS:

    If you do less, you can do those things more slowly, more completely and with more concentration.
    If you fill your day with tasks, you will be rushing from one thing to the next without stopping to think about what you do. But you’re busy and you can’t possibly do less, right? You can. We all can. It’s a matter of figuring out what’s important, and letting go of what’s not.

  5. TAKE TIME TO RFLECT:

    Whether it’s through journalling every morning or night, sitting in silence and recapping the day, try to spend a little time, on your own, to reflect on why you’re here and how today has been. Did you feel like you took steps towards your purpose? Did you feel like you made a difference? Did you feel like you were present in what you did? If not, then note down – physically or mentally – how you can do tomorrow differently.

  6. BREATHE:

    For a moment, just stop reading and simply pay attention to your breath.As you focus your attention on your breath, you’ll notice that your breath is neither voluntary or involuntary. It is something that you do, but at the same time something that “does you”.
    When you focus your attention on your breath, you come back into relationship with reality, because like breath, reality is both something you do and something that “does you”.
    It is co-creative. Practice conscious breathing to bring your mind back to the present.

I hope, you can incorporate these practices into your own life, so that we can slow down this time we have on earth and live our purpose whilst being present and mindful.
